Sitting at the Feet of Jesus
“Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:38 – 42.
When my children were younger, I always used to tell them that the one thing Dad could not do for them, was to have a relationship with God on their behalf. It was up to each of them to build a personal relationship with the Father.
We all need a personal relationship with the Father.
Many Christians attend church services and pray and worship in the corporate context, but when they get home they abandon their fellowship with God and operate in the dimension of the ‘soul’ for their daily living. Like Martha, they have become distracted by the busyness of life.
Throughout my years of ministry, my greatest desire has always been to get the church to pray. To teach the flock to get into the presence of God. For I know from personal experience that when you get before God you will move into what I call the “revelation zone” where you will receive God’s wisdom and revelation for your daily life. You will become aware of the love and presence of God in your life like never before. This is why Mary chose the “good part” by sitting at the feet of Jesus, receiving the answers to her deepest needs.
Have you neglected your personal devotion to the Lord?
Jesus is calling you today (and every day) to come and sit at His feet, so that He may impart to you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation (Ephesians 1:17).
Will you answer His call?
